Living in this San Francisco bedroom community is really without parallel.  There’s always something going on, more importantly it’s about the kids and keeping our kids busy. Keeping our children healthy makes our lives as parents that much more enjoyable.

Recently I walked alongside our Petaluma High School sophomore down the halls of PHS, meeting with her teachers and my questions for each of them were all the same: “How is she doing, does she participate and how are her grades?” Every answer I received was in the form of a positive response and the word I most enjoyed hearing came from her History teacher … “she’s diligent” … there’s me standing there in my outfit from work, slacks, shirt and tie – and my Red Sox hat.  The hat really says it all.  It’s been through some tough times and seen it’s fair share of good times so when her died-in-the-wool Brooklyn born History teacher tells me she’s diligent I know his response was believable.  I could have unloaded with a number of my personal issues about the New York Yankees and while Logan stood there holding her breath she thanked me as we exited for NOT getting into a debate with her teacher over the rivalry that is.  We laughed.

Our sophomore left on her bicycle to join in the town’s 30th annual Butter & Eggs festival downtown.  She’ll be meeting with her friends with a sleepover for tonight already scheduled.  Bonnie and I are watching the second meeting of the Red Sox/Blue Jays at Fenway Park this young season with the SOX currently on top 4-1.

My morning started with a drive down to Art’s Barber shop to change the status of a “no maintenance” haircut to a “low maintenance” one.  I hadn’t cut my hair since early January or maybe late December and it really was something ridiculous to look at – particularly for those folks that have known for a long time.  Larry Fine (The Three Stooges) was probably a close look-a-like.  I sat down looking like one man and exited looking like another.  I had the windows down while slowly rolling through town this morning and the smells of all the local eateries and food stands along the streets alerted my senses to how great this little town of ours is.

The annual Butter & Eggs Day parade is about to begin … but where’s the bacon?

Next stop? Marvin’s!

Thank you Petaluma.
